How would you rate Shopify?

Shopify is an online platform that assists companies to bring their products to unsuspecting consumers. Twice I have been defrauded by online companies out of China ie Gifthershoes and Philipspulseoximters who have sent inferior or non functioning items and when contacted for reimbursement will offer 20% percent back on the original price if you agree to keep the item. What a deal! You get to keep something that doesn't work as well as essentially not receive your money back. When you contact Shopify to complain they will inform you that they take consumer fraud " very seriously " but due to privacy issues will be unable to share with you the results of their fraud investigation. This is code for we have no intention of helping you rectify this situation and you are on your own. They clearly do not vet the companies they facilitate and when there are problems state that they are not responsible for anything that happens under their platform. I would encourage consumers to contact the FTC and other federal organizations to report consumer fraud. If it were possible to rate Shopify with zero stars I would do so.
Business owners please be aware, Shopify.com does not care (<--- Made a rhyme see what I did there?)
Shopify is an e-commerce platform based out of canada I think. This review describes their quality of service in a nutshell. This was a chat log when speaking to their technical support in regards to down-time while accessing their tools.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out to Shopify Support. My name is Dave and I am happy to help you today!
Hi Anthony! OK so having some issues with uptime today, can you let me know the context there and the nature of the issues you're facing while I pull up your account here?
Anthony
Hi, its not just today it constantly happens
Dave
Can you let me know the issues you're facing so I can help you investigate a solution?
Anthony
Well up until a few minutes ago it was reported on shopfiystatus.com
Its not a singular issue
Im contacting shopify today because i have had enough of these uptime issues
I realize that you are not the one in control of this type of thing, but I have no one else to notify
Shopify claims they have 99.9% uptime
And that isn't true
The last 12 months I have been unable to either load my website hosted by shopify, or access my shopify admin account to perform my duties
Uptime for my shopify account has been at bet 95%
Dave
Fair enough! I can appreciate that any time you're told one stat but experiencing something different, that it's completely frustrating. So basically the uptime issues you're referring to are both customer facing (store was down) and admin facing (you can't log into your account or access the admin), in these instances were you able to get in touch with us to learn more about the downtime? We do strive to make sure our merchants have the most uptime possible of course so I would want to look into any downtime right away
Anthony
Everytime this happens i am on hold for an hour or longer
I don't have time to wait on hold
For the kind of money i pay for this service i should be getting the 99.9% uptime advertised
There are two options that can remedy this situation
Fix the uptime problems
Compensation for existing uptime problems
Dave
So I would be happy to help you look into all available options. When it comes to any current issues you may be experiencing with downtime, I would be happy to help you look into them immediately to rectify them to make sure you have access and your customers can check out. If there are any instances of downtime that you feel have led to lost sales, we can also take a look directly at your contact with customers where they were noting the issues with downtime and pass those along to our Billing team. When it comes to feedback for our developers as well, I will be taking detailed notes of your noted downtime today and passing those along internally to my developers so they can take note as well as I do have a direct path for feedback to that team:)
Anthony
Ok
Dave
Did you have any current downtime issues we need to address? I can also make myself available to you over email as well if you think it's something that might happen in the next few days, so you can let me know over email and I can address things myself then so you don't have to wait in line for our chat here
Anthony
Things appear to be back up right now.
I don't feel like my issue has been resolved though
Dave
I can appreciate it's frustrating to experience downtime, which can sometimes be so fast that by the time you wait in line to contact us it could be resolved already. How can I best help you at this moment to resolve your issue?
Anthony
So I am strongly considering ending my relationship with shopify after my latest subscription is over and moving to a platform that has historical better uptime. And i feel like all that has been done here is what shopify allows in their terms and conditions. If shopfiy doesn't care about my subscription then just say so and I will move on. If they do care, then they should consider that I've been a loyal customer for a few years and offer me a direct compensation from my yearly subscription in effort to keep me.
Dave
So as you've noted that you feel the downtime has led to lost revenue for you, do you have some examples of conversations with affected customers that I could show to my Billing team? I would be happy to look into any possible credits which could be discussed if you have specific cases of lost sales due to downtime
Working in support, all I want to do is make sure I help you as best as I can within the company, so I'd be happy to bring those cases to my Billing team on your behalf to talk about any potential credits that are possible:)
Anthony
I think you may have missed the point
Shopify prides itself on 99.9% uptime and that hasn't happened. Loss of sales or not, its the potential loss of sales, ...

Shopify is a money-making machine. Unfortunately not for the seller but for Shopify itself. Waste of time and money. Avoid at all costs.
This payment processor doesnt allow me to make purchases at any shop they use this service. No idea why always flaggs my purchases. I tried to reach them to ask about this isse and they dont have support for customers.
Support is dreadful. I wonder how much they outsource it for. Its clearly low quality. Looking at its ratings and reviews I can see that no care is given at all. Won't recommend shopify to anybody from now on.
Worst platform ever. Banned me for asking change my home address. Write application to court and waiting. Hope in court they tell why they do this and pay me for ruining my business.
Ordered a shirt and the image was completely crooked and blurry. How on earth do you sell someone a product like that?!
Shopify Lite was great to use while on SquareSpace. I'm giving 4 stars for two reasons.
1. I had Shopify Lite so with all things you play around until you get to know it. While playing around with the features by enabling a feature it automatically upgraded my account. I'm used to companies confirming if you want to upgrade Not shopify. They said you want this feature we got you Upgrade. That wasn't really a big deal tbh. Just have to pay more attention.
2. I decided to close my account and had Luire Chancoco as my chat agent. Not only did she take her sweet time responding back but the information she gave me was completely different then the information the next agent (Kath) gave me. I trust Kath more than Luire because she responded back in a timely manner and kept me up to date with what she was doing and checking on to resolve my question/issue.
Besides that Shopify isn't bad I just got tired of paying two subscriptions.
I cannot with a clear conscience host my store with Shopify anymore! All summer when cities were being burnt to the ground for no reason these cooperations were silent and actually donated and supported BLM because they were burning down their competition but now they want to silence the sitting president of the United States because they don't like him! Were they censoring Kamala Harris when she bailed out the same terrorists that burned down innocent pols shops so they could do it again no because Shopify and companies like them wanted small businesses to burn so people will have to shop online more! They are a Marxist company and they don't care about their sellers not all sellers are communists and they have now put sellers in a very awkward position where customers etc are saying they will no longer shop with me! I am now moving to bigcommerce not to say they are any better but Shopify have shown their true colours they aren't a company they are a cult!
Where did they get their info from to shut down the president's shops from CNN? They are using CNN to make decisions lol and anyway who are they to decide what the president can and can't say!
This is the most insecure site. All your information will be disseminated to the masses including your credit card info and personal address. Do not participate in shopify.
I signed up for the free trial to check it all out as an alternative to adding items to my Etsy. First, the site is absolutely awful to navigate and I didn’t go so far to even try to set up my store because I hated the user interface so much. Then I looked everywhere to find info about their transaction fees or fee structures and could find nothing except the plan purchase pricing. I quickly opted out and shut down the free trial within an hour. Then I saw this site and realised what a bullet I dodged. Not worth the hassle, how is this company publicly traded?!
Don't use Shopify platform for you e-shop due to high very fees policies! If you start with BASIC plan and use automatic payment app integrations (like Stripe to collect payments on your products selling to customers), you will be double charged basically. Stripe will take it's fee for your transactions which is fine, but also Shopify will take 2% commission on top of Stripe payment method fee. With the upgraded plan you will pay more for Shopify plan itself but still 1% commission on all payment methods used transactions is left which is still double charging. So both with Basic and other upgraded Shopify plans they will double charge you on transactions which you already paid for to payment methods vendors. Avoid Shopify sincerely, this is un ethical in my view fee structure policy/strategy practises.
I have 2 ecommerce stores running on Shopify and on each of them I've reached out to their customer service team for a variety of issues. Each time I've been blown away by the standard of service I've received. On one store I had an issue with getting Google Shopping set up and syncing my products. Charlotte G emailed back with a full step by step walk through of how to fix the issue with screenshots and everything - I was well impressed. It wasn't scripted either, she actually looked at the problem and wrote a tailored solution to it. On my other store I needed some technical help with an idea I'd had for the newsletter sign up form. Drew (a theme specialist at Shopify) emailed back suggesting I reconsider the idea and do the opposite, and sent me articles/research to highlight the point. I had a read through and realised he was absolutely right and just saved us from messing up! Honestly I can't praise them highly enough - it makes such a difference when someone takes the time to understand the problem and respond with the right solution. I also sell on Amazon and their seller support is horrendous, it's like talking to a brick wall. Shopify is the polar opposite. Keep up the great work!

I was told it is useful, but when I called customer service, after not seeing these function on the website, the rep said it does not do drop shipping, send products to other websites, or anything else that a friend of mine said it did. The customer service is horrible. As my friend recommended it, I would think it is legit but not the kind of people I would do business with. You can google "shopify alternatives" and find what are similar that are competitors. Supposedly you can manage all products on all websites in the shopify account, but then again, the rep told me everything my friend said was false and it cannot do. I do not think being on the shopify website would get much business as I have never heard anyone talk about shopping for stuff on there. I have only heard it mentioned as a place to sell products. There are lots of other places that are better and have more reputable impression. I sell mine on amazon. I tried Ebay but they are best for antique or other rare, hard to find products. When I listed my books on ebay they did not get views or anything, much less sales. Ebay customer service told me they did not add my products to the search results either so they were not supprise I did not get views or sales. That made it a rip off for me and I would think a scam since I paid for it to be added. Ebay never refunded me though they said they would. It has been a year and I still never got the refund. I do not recommend them either.
